Crochet pattern – drawstring bag

on March 28, 2015

IMG_6216 This cute little bag is ideal for using up leftover scraps of yarn to make gift bags. or you could use it to store jewellery or make up, or as a small handbag. The options are endless! The size will vary depending on the type of yarn and size of hook you use. And it’s crocheted from the top down, so just stop whenever you’re about to run out of yarn. Materials: Yarn (I used Red Heart Lisa for the blue bag shown above) Crochet hook: Size to suit yarn (I used 4mm for the bag above) Abbreviations: ch = chain scr = single crochet dcr = double crochet sl st = slip stitch Instructions: Foundation row: Chain 30 and join with a sl st (if you want a bigger or smaller bag you can make the chain longer or shorter – just make sure that the number of chains can be divided by 2). Row 1: Ch 3, the  dcr in first ch, ch1, *sk next ch then dcr in following ch, ch1*, repeat to end, join with sl st Row 2 and all following rows: Ch 1 then scr in each st round, join with sl st. Repeat row 2 until bag reaches required length or until you’re nearly about to run out of yarn. Then join sides of bag by holding the sides together and joining each pair of scr with a sl st. Bind off and weave in ends. To finish, weave a ribbon through the gaps between each dcr in row 1 and tie with a bow. Alternatively you could make a chain long enough to fit through the gaps around row 1 and weave that through instead, as shown in the striped bag below. IMG_6217
