Crocheted candle jar covers

on December 20, 2014

Recycle a used glass jar into a candle holder with a pretty crochet cover.

Size 6 crochet thread
3mm hook

There is no gauge for this project – the size of the beginning chain should be adjusted to go around the jar you are using.

Short fat candle jar cover
I used a jar which had previously held salsa for this

ch 73 and join with sl st (check chain just goes around the jar – you don’t want it to be too loose
Row 1 – Scr in 2nd ch from hook and then scr in each ch around. Join with sl st.
Row 2 – Ch 1 and then scr in each scr around. Join with sl st
First pattern row – Ch1 (counts as first scr), then 2 dcr in stitch where row was joined. *Sk 2 scr then scr and 2 dcr in next scr” Repeat from * to end of row. Join with sl st
Second pattern row – Ch 1 (Ch1 (counts as first scr), then 2 dcr in stitch where row was joined. Then *scr and 2 dcr between pattern from previous row to end. Join with sl st
Repeat row 2 until pattern reaches desired height
Next row – Ch1 and scr in front loops only of each st around. Join with sl st
Final row – Ch 1 and then scr in each stitch around.
Fasten off

Taller jar cover
I used a jar which had previously held pasta sauce for this one

Follow instructions for short fat candle jar cover, but adjust length of foundation chain and number of pattern rows to fit size of jar (I had 58 ch in my foundation chain)

Place finished cover over jar, insert candle and light
Then sit back and enjoy the pretty pattern made by the light coming through the gaps in the pattern
