Summer camp – My Piešt’any – day 4

on July 24, 2014

The appearance of bryndzové halušky on the lunch menu today caused excitment among some of my students. Slovakia’s national dish divides people into two camps – those, like my students, who love it, and others like me, who can’t abide it. If you’re not already aware of this dish you can find out more about it here.

Today the students were supposed to go out, interview people and find out what makes them happy or sad. That was the plan anyway. And I had a nice list of the places the students were supposed to go. But of course when I went to see how they were getting on, not a single student was where they were supposed to be. And I think only one of them asked the question about what makes their interviewee happy or sad. But that’s how it goes when you work with kids. They still came back with some interesting stuff, which you can read about here.

What made me happy or sad today?

Well apart from not having to eat bryndzové halušky, this artwork on the pavement brought a smile to my face

And what made me sad?
As usual, seeing litter dropped by the river. This item has now been appropriately recycled. Piešt’any is such a beautiful city – it would be nice if people could try to keep it clean.

Tomorrow will be the last day of the course. Prizes will be awarded for the best photo, the best story and the best combination of the two. Stay tuned for the results.
