Ribbon weave cushion

on May 22, 2013

I designed this cushion to use up some yarn I had left over from another project and some ribbon from my craft stash.

Ribbon weave cushion

Crochet hook: 4mm

Yarn: Elian Nicky – 100% Acrylic, 50gr, 152m (I used 3 balls and had some left over)

Ribbon: 10 – 12m of assorted ribbons. I used 1/2 inch /1cm wide ribbon

Cushion pad: Square. I used a 14 inch / 36cm pad

Gauge: 20 stitches and 20 rows for a 10 X 10cm square

Ch72, turn
Row 1: Scr in 4th chain from hook and in each ch to end, ch2, turn

Rows 2-53: Scr in second scr and then in each scr across, ch2, turn

Bind off

Ch 72, turn
Rows 1 to 4: Scr in 4th chain from hook and in each ch to end, ch2, turn

Row 5: Scr in each dcr and ch1 space across, ch3, turn

Row 6: Dcr in first 5 scr, *ch1, skip next scr, dcr in next scr, repeat from * to last 4 scr, dcr in each scr to end, ch2, turn

Repeat rows 5 and 6 17 times (ending on a row 6)

Work 5 rows as for rows 1 to 4

Bind off

Sew together first 10 stitches of bottom edge, around sides and top and then last 10 stitches of bottom edge. This will leave an opening in the bottom for you to insert the cushion pad. This can be left open or you may wish to add snap fasteners to close the opening.

Turn cushion inside out. Weave ribbon through loops on front of cushion, securing with a knot at the end of each row or by passing the ribbon through the stitches between the rows.

Turn cushion right side out and insert cushion pad. Close fasteners if using.
